What are the lessons like

— 01

Learn the basics

Your tutor will start by asking questions to understand what you know and where you need to focus. Even if you only took English in school 10 years ago, some knowledge may still be there, and your tutor will help you recall everything you know. After that, they’ll create a personal plan just for you.

In the online English classes for beginners, you will learn the alphabet and the pronunciation of letters and sounds, get used to the English speech and practice common words and phrases. Over time, you’ll move on to learning tenses, grammar structures, and rules.

To summarise, your first few lessons will focus on understanding you and your learning goals. Soon after, you’ll be learning the basics with an individual plan.

Tips For Learning New Words

— 02

Practice speaking

Beginner lessons will help develop your active listening and speaking skills. You’ll work with a native-like tutor and get used to understanding how they talk. At first, they’ll speak slowly and carefully articulate words to ensure you’re comfortable.

Over time, you’ll build up confidence. Understanding speech will take less effort than before. You’ll also practice common phrases and situations to build up your vocabulary.

In the end, your English will improve to the point where you can comfortably talk about familiar topics.

Understand the structure

Grammar sounds boring to a lot of English beginners, and rightfully so! The way we learn it as children tends to be tough and relies on memory and discipline. However, that’s not how your lessons with an A0 tutor will go. They will help you understand grammar with simple examples and situations.

You’ll learn simple tenses and verbs that you can use every day. Over time, this will become easy and you won’t even need to think about rules. The point of learning grammar is to apply it to topics you’re interested in.

However, be prepared to do some things that will be difficult for you initially. This will lead to great results in your future lessons.

I have taken group lessons. There is a comfortable atmosphere in the group, with jokes, defusing the situation, very friendly and optimistic. At the same time, if necessary, the material is explained several times.

After a long period of self-study of English, this course «English for beginners» has become a real discovery. Vocabulary expansion, grammar, and speaking – it's all possible to learn from scratch. But the main thing in this case, of course, is the teacher. Thanks to my tutor!

Frequently asked questions

Who is this course for?

English learning classes for beginners help people who start with no English skills. Everyone starts somewhere, and no learner is an entirely blank slate. However, this class is for people with little to no foundational training in school or professional life. If you struggle to understand simple structures and need a translator to read this page - you would benefit from learning English for beginners.

What should I learn first in English?

If you decide to learn English beginner grammar, then you need to start with the verb to be and simple structures. Then, you can slowly build on these structures and learn Present Simple and everyday vocabulary. Basic English knowledge builds on the alphabet, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. A beginner’s vocabulary usually includes anywhere from 500 to 3000 words, which sounds like a lot, but becomes much easier when these words are tied to everyday topics.

How to learn English at home for beginners?

You can learn English on your own by studying books and immersing yourself in the environment. However, very few people have the self-studying discipline to achieve this. So instead, our learners opt to use Promova to help on their journey.

We offer a lot of original and adapted materials for your tutoring lessons and to practice on your own in the app. You can review topics, learn new words, and check in with your individual lesson plan.

Which English grammar books are good for beginners?

There are a lot of books for the beginner level, and all of them can get you started. For example, the book English File from Oxford University Press includes 12 modules. Each of the modules contains small lessons on different topics. Another good coursebook is Cutting Edge, this is a universal one. The Language Live section contains tasks on vocabulary, grammar, and writing. Finally, in the World Culture section, you can find many relevant topics helpful in learning English and general knowledge.

However, if you want to get deep into English learning, we recommend you work with a tutor and combine self-study with guided lessons.

How to start a conversation in English for beginners?

Conversations depend entirely on your speaking confidence. The higher your English level, the more meaningful you can make them. If you’re a beginner, start with basic introductions and greetings. Next, learn to talk about yourself, ask simple questions, and build from there.

Guidance from a tutor in English for beginners can also help you practice common topics without fear of embarrassment. This way, you’ll be in an environment where mistakes are expected, and you can learn a great deal from them.

Your exact learning pace will depend on your personal qualities and motivation. Practice speaking at your own pace with Promova!
