The Best Easy English eBooks for Beginners

If you are just starting your language-learning journey, you should focus on books with a clear and simple style, a user-friendly vocabulary, and plenty of dialogue. This way, you’ll be able to truly enjoy the book without feeling overwhelmed by challenging structures and unknown words. Below, we’ve compiled a list of amazing, uncomplicated books that will suit the beginner’s level.

Starring Tracy Beaker by Jacqueline Wilson

Available on: Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Google Books, Penguin Books.

The first book, like most of the others on the list, is considered a children’s novel. However, we do believe that it is worthy of your attention regardless of your age. It is a heartwarming story of a girl named Tracy, who lives in a care home.

Kids there call it the Dumping Ground, as most feel dumped there. Tracy Beaker, the main character, is a spirited and imaginative girl. In this book, she faces a new challenge – she needs to play Scrooge in a Christmas play. This book is a great way to practice reading and learn different themes, from friendship to family relationships.

The Amelia Bedelia series by Peggy Parish

Available on: Amazon Kindle, Google Books, Apple Books.

This series is probably one of our favorites. It is a compilation of hilarious short stories in English that evolve around Amelia Bedelia, who works as a housekeeper. However, she has one unique feature – she constantly misunderstands all the tasks and assignments and takes all the idioms and sayings literally.

For example, in the first book, when her employer asked her to draw the drapes when the sun comes in (to protect furniture from fading), Amelia literally drew the drapes – on a piece of paper, like any other drawing. There are so many situations like that in the books, and we are sure they will be funny and useful not only for kids but for adults as well.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

Available on: Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Google Books.

The story is narrated by Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old boy with autism spectrum disorder who possesses an extraordinary talent for mathematics but struggles with social interactions and sensory overload. When Christopher discovers the dead body of his neighbor’s dog, he decides to uncover the truth behind this tragic event, despite his father’s warnings to stay out of other people’s business.

During his investigation, Christopher uncovers shocking secrets about his own family and confronts his fears along the way. The novel offers a unique perspective on the world through Christopher’s eyes and explores themes of truth, trust, and the power of determination.

Amazing English eBooks for Intermediate Learners

If you have the B1-B2 fluency level, you can start reading more complex and challenging books. It is a great time to move from children’s novels to modern or eternal classics and explore the various options available. Below, you can find some of our favorite English eBooks for the Intermediate level.

The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton

Available on: Amazon Kindle, Google Books, Apple Books.

This coming-of-age novel by Susan Eloise Hinton is definitely worthy of your attention. It tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis, a teenager living in Oklahoma. The novel is known for its authentic portrayal of teenage lives and exploration of universal themes of class conflict, identity, and teenage struggles with finding rights and wrongs.

Ponyboy, the main character, believes there are two kinds of people in the world. He refers to the first group as socs, who are wealthy, privileged, and often arrogant. In contrast, he identifies with the greasers, a group to which he belongs, characterized by their working-class background and rebellious attitude.

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

Available on: Amazon Kindle, Google Books, Apple Books.

This is probably the most recent novel in the article, as it was published only a few years ago, in 2021. It is a story about Klara, an Artificial Friend designed to become a companion for children, who is also the book’s narrator. The novel takes place in a dystopian future where AI coexists with human beings.

During the story, Klara becomes friends with a teenage girl named Josie. They become quite close, leading to the Artificial Friend's appearance of complex emotions and her questioning of her existence.

The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

Available on: Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Google Books.

The last Intermediate book on our list is an eternal American classic. This novel tells the story of an elderly fisherman named Santiago, who is considered salao – very unlucky. Upset about the number of unfortunate events, Santiago plans a journey to catch a giant marlin. Alone at sea for days, he battles the elements, exhaustion, and physical limitations as he struggles to reel in the magnificent fish.
